Jon Burton Clark, 77, while surrounded by his loving family, passed away on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Jon was born on February 17, 1938 to C.B. and Susie Bailey Clark in Williamston, NC. While he lived in a variety of locations and traveled extensively in his 77 years, Williamston was always home and he was able to return there for the last few years of his life.
Jon graduated as a Political Science major from UNC-Chapel Hill and attended graduate school at Cornell University on a full scholarship. He was a very animated and vocal true blue Tarheel fan who loved watching “his boys” play. One of his favorite experiences was being with C.B. in New Orleans to watch Dean win the 1982 championship over Georgetown. After a short period of service in the Army, Jon retired from E.P.A. twenty-five dedicated years. He is remembered for his incredible work ethic and problem solving abilities. Jon had a tremendous sense of humor. He loved being with family and reliving funny family stories of which we have so many. He relished a good meal and even more a chocolate dessert. Jon enjoyed puzzles, cards, and board games, but he played to win…no mercy for his opponents no matter what their age. He took us on so many great trips and we will forever hold those memories and experiences close.
Jon leaves to remember him his grieving wife, Sherry Collins Clark, who says that he changed her life forever when they married in November 1989. He leaves five grateful children; Paige Clark Dickerson, Ashleigh Clark Miller, Jaime Leigh Inscoe, Jason William Rondeau, and Cary David McNeill. We are much better people for having had daddy’s love, guidance and unwavering support in our lives. Jon’s greatest pride and pleasure came from his eight grandchildren; Caleb Burt Dickerson, Noah James Dickerson, Aaron Bruce Dickerson, Elliot Jacob Miller, Avery Elizabeth Miller, Jasmine Laine Gerth, Lilly Claire Inscoe, and Jailyn Michelle Rondeau. Jon is also survived by his beloved sister and partner in crime, Betty Sue Davis. He will be truly missed by each of us.
Please join us for a visitation Friday evening, September 25th from 6:00 until 7:30 at Biggs Funeral Home in Williamston. Jon’s memorial services will be Saturday, September 26th, at 1:00 p.m. in the Biggs Funeral Home Chapel with a graveside service following at Woodlawn Cemetery, also in Williamston. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial donations to his life-long spiritual home, First Christian Church of Williamston, 101 East Liberty Street, 27892.
