

Mary Lib attended Bear Grass School enjoying academics, sports and especially basketball. She was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1935.
She attended Atlantic Christian College (Barton College) where she received a two year business degree. She began her career (46 years) in the Martin County Clerk of Superior Court office. She served as Clerk of Superior Court from 1970-1985. Her lifelong interest in helping others continued at Bowen & Bachelor Law firm Williamston, NC where she worked until the age of 92.
Mary Lib was a beloved friend, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She enjoyed traveling nationally and internationally with her friends and family. She was involved in many community activities including, L. Bruce Wynne Scholarship Committee, Martin County Democratic Women, Woman’s Club of Williamston, Martin County Historical Society, the American Cancer Society, Martin County Crop Walk and a volunteer at Williamston Primary School.
She received the distinguished Order of the Long Leaf Pine from Governor Beverly Perdue in 2011 .
Mary Lib dearly loved her church, Williamston Presbyterian, serving as Elder and President of the Women of the Church. She was a devoted Circle member and Sunday schoolteacher. Mary Lib was given the Honorary Life Membership Award by the Presbyterian Church and one from the Albemarle Presbytery.
Her incredible Christian faith and devotion to others was a great inspiration to her friends and family.
She was an avid Duke Blue Devils fan and she and her daughter Anne Cherry attended eight NCAA Final Fours and enjoyed watching Duke win the 2001 and 201 0 National Championships.
She is survived by her two children, David Harrison Davenport (Carolyn) of Durham, NC and Anne Davenport Cherry of Williamston, NC. Three grandchildren, Brock Harrison Davenport (Dawn) of Greenville, NC, Zachary Stone Davenport of Long lsland City, NY, Ellen Elizabeth Davenport of Raleigh, NC. Three great grandchildren, Audra Anne Allen (Joe) of Winterville, NC, J. Samuel Ferguson of Winterville, NC and Ashton Harrison Davenport of Greenville, NC. One great great grandchild Skylar Elizabeth Allen of Winterville,
NC. She is predeceased by her husband L. Bruce Wynne, son-in-law James E.
Cherry and her 1st husband T.F. Davenport.
The funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at 11:00am at Biggs Funeral Home (Chapel). Visitation will be Monday, May 25, 2015 at Biggs Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:00pm. Other times the family will be at 1751 Ralph Taylor Rd.
The family wishes to thank her loving and loyal caregivers, Ethel Latham, Nancy Rogerson, Jeanette Ruffin, Gloria Hyman, Peggy Brown and Victoria Sheppard.
A special thanks to the nursing staff in ICU at Martin General Hospital.
