Velma Whitehurst Jones

Velma Whitehurst Warren Jones 85, passed away at Golden Living Center in Greenville on Thursday July 28th, 2011 Mrs. Jones was born in the Stokes Township on April 28, 1926 to the late Ernest J. & Fannie W. Whitehurst She was involved in the family farm and also worked for the Pitt County Board of Education at Stokes Elementary School for a number of years. She was a member of West End Baptist Church in Williamston. In 1943, she married Clayton E.Warren who died in 1972. In 1979 she married William R. Jones who died in 1996. In addition to her parents and husbands, she was predeceased by a brother, Judson Whitehurst; sisters, Marie Smith, Novella Banta & Katherine Warren. She is survived by a step-daughter Vickie S. Jones of Milton, Fl; four nieces, Nanette Whichard of Greenville; Brenda Olson of Wrightsville Beach; Zora Felton of Raleigh; Reba Burke of Raleigh, and seven nephews, Warren Whitehurst of Kinston; Larry Whitehurst of Nashville; Mike Warren of Oxford; Paul Banta of Blounts Creek; Donald Warren of Ocean Isle; Ernest Warren of Roxboro and Mark Warren of Louisburg.

Graveside services will be conducted by Rev. Travis Wood at the Bethel Town Cemetery on July 31, at 4:00PM. Visitation will prior to the service at Biggs Funeral Home in Williamston, NC from 2:00PM to 3:00PM. Lieu of flowers, contributions can made to The American Cancer Society-Relay for Life or one's favorite charity.
