Beloved husband of 58 years to Joan (nee Liber) Peterson; devoted father of Michelle (Hugh) Walser and Don J. Peterson; cherished grandfather of Joshua (Cassandra Seibel) Walser, Bryan (Alexander Volkmann) Walser; Emma (David) Labonte and Kristen Peterson; loving son of the late Amelia (nee Lukman) and Donald I. Peterson; dear brother of George (Jeanne) Peterson and Tom (Raquel) Peterson; also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Don was the heart of his family—always offering strength, wise guidance, and unwavering love. He cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, entire family and friends whether it was time on the beach, teaching them to cast a fishing line, helping them learn to water ski, or simply sharing stories that made everyone laugh. His family was his greatest joy and his lasting legacy.
An avid outdoorsman, he found deep peace and purpose in nature. He spent countless seasons boating on lakes in Western NY and on Long Island Sound, skiing wooded trails, and camping. Hunting and fishing weren’t just pastimes for Don — they were traditions rooted in respect for the land and shared with those he loved. His deep connection to the outdoors reflected his character: steady, grounded, and full of appreciation for life’s simple, enduring pleasures. Don’s spirit will live on in the places he loved and the family who will forever carry his memory.
