She was born June 14, 1934 in Buffalo, NY to Ernest F. Fimbel and Marion Hocele Fimbel. She spent her childhood and early adult years in Buffalo. On October 1, 1955, she married Oliver F. (Bud) Braxton. To this union, 6 children were born. After living in multiple residences in Buffalo, the family purchased a homestead in Silver Creek, NY in 1971 where they lived until their retirement. During retirement, Louise and Bud traveled all over the US in a large RV. Their favorite spot was in southern Texas. Once Bud’s health began to fail, they purchased a home in Philadelphia, MS. Once Bud passed, Louise made plans to join her sisters in Charlotte, NC. She resided there until returning to Buffalo in 2020. Her life was filled with many hobbies. She loved to do needlework, crochet, and knit. Several hospitals in Charlotte were blessed by her generosity by the knit caps she crocheted for cancer patients. Reading, puzzles and playing games also filled her days. Bowling was one of her favorite activities and she traveled all over the USA to play in bowling competitions. Her love of baking and gardening is being continued by several of her children and grandchildren. Always a hard worker, she spent many seasons in the grape vineyards of western NY preparing the vines for the growing season. Many times, Louise and Bud opened their home to those in need and made them feel loved and welcome.
The Lake Shore Marine Club was an integral part of Louise’s life while they lived in Silver Creek. She was bartender, cook and “mom” to many of the patrons. Her St. Patrick’s Day corned beef and cabbage was legendary. Always an active member in her local church, she walked the walk of a caring, compassionate Christian. She was ready to serve in any capacity. Even when the dementia began to claim life skills she had counted on (baking, sewing), you could still find her helping in the church kitchen sweeping the floor.
She is predeceased by her parents, husband, and three brothers: Paul, Lawrence, and Leonard Fimbel. Surviving are her children: Barbara (Gary) Bishop of Louisville, KY; Michael (Cindy) Braxton of Silver Creek, NY; James (Rosanne) Braxton of Snyder, NY; Steven (Janet) Braxton of Mason, OH and Richard (Jonathan Price) Braxton of Rochester, NY, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, her three sisters: Patricia Bingenheimer, Phyllis Vail, and Pamela Giambalvo and countless nieces and nephews.
We will miss our Mom, Grandma and GiGi very much. Even as her mind failed she kept her smile, her sweet tooth and her sense of humor. Your journey is done and God has welcomed you with open arms.
