Deanna and family, we are so sorry to just recently learn about Mike's passing.  We met Mike at Tully's and shared his great love of sports.  I know he was so proud of you Deanna and you always made us feel welcome when you worked at Tully's, "Grandpa's friends from Canada" as we were known.  Mike, I last texted you on July 3rd, had I known that you were to pass a few days after that, I would have said so much more.   Thank you for all the little tokens, gifts, coupons and great conversations over the years, but most of all, thank you for your friendship.  Visiting Buffalo will not be the same without you.  Call them like you see them Mike,  until we meet again.  Linda and Steve.

The news of Mike's death, at an ND Class of '61 luncheon on October 9, 2018, was a shock! Although Mike did not attend ND his relationship with St. Cashmir classmates continued as did his interest  and participation in their recent ND reunion activities. It is from this brief contact that I can better appreciate how intertwined our lives were during those coming of age years in the southern tier of New York.

So many games,many great memories. I remember you asking me about becoming an umpire. You were only interested in working baseball games, then Auntie Rosie's happened. You did so many good things for WNYUA, especially being Vice President. I couldn't  had a better pupil. You will be missed but never forgotten. Your buddy Griff.

I am so sorry that I was out of town for the wake and services. I did not know Mike long, but he was a big help when I started Umpiring Baseball and Softball after my retirement. He took an interest in me, as I think he appreciated my enthusiasm and willingness to learn a new pastime as "an old guy".  I will always appreciate his patience and willingness to teach the skills needed. He also was willing to go the extra mile to get new Umps proper gear and uniforms. He gave me a used set of shin guards to help get me started. I will think of him whenever I buckle those on. My sincere condolences to Mikes family.

In 8th grade we were planning our graduation and Sr. Elizabeth Marie called upon Michael to ask him what the boys should wear since he was the sharpest dresser in the class. I remember Mike standing at his desk and saying: dark gray blazers, light gray slacks, white bucks, white shirts, and< I think, red ties. 

All 12 boys looked really handsome for graduation!!!

Mike, my St. Casimir's classmate from Kindergarten through 8th grade was a favorite classmate to all.  He was admired and liked and always was ready with a big smile for everyone. He was a happy and most generous person as I remember. In 8th grade we had a money jar for the Missions. When we had the correct amount, we were able to adopt a foreign mission new-born baby. When Sister Elizabeth Marie asked the class what we would like to name this baby, everyone voted for the name "Michael" because Mike contributed the most money. Mike also led the effort to find everyone for our 50th, St. Casimir's 8th grade reunion. It was a wonderful time and I am glad I had the opportunity to give Mike a hug.   I will cherish his memory and miss him terribly.  As long as someone remembers, Mike will remain alive in our hearts forever.   My heartfelt condolences to his entire family to whom he was devoted. 

Mike was a classmate of mine at St. Casimir's School in Elmira, NY.   He was the organizer of our St. Casimir's Class reunions.  Our first one was in 1982, our 25th.  He did it all in 2 weeks via email and the phone.  We had our 60th one last year and sadly he missed it.  I will always remember his smiling face.

Mick, in the two stints I did as an umpire, I found you to be one of my influences in that area.  Your sense of fairness, hustle, and consistency rubbed off on me.  Thank you.

Every summer I would visit our buffalo family. Great memories but I always was a little intimidated by mike. He was so assertive...just wasn't used to that. I will never forget one day when Deanna was an infant and she had a little eye boogie. Chris had her hands full and told her dad to get it.  He was so concerned about hurting deanna and I realized assertive as he was on the inside he was still a great big teddy bear. Thanks for the memory Mike XO. 

My forever friend, Mike goes back to 1958.  The first time I saw him, he was a life guard at Center Street Pool, in Elmira , NY.  June, 1958.   He had a beautiful bronze tan, black wavy hair, and the biggest smile, with dimples, and the perfect white teeth, which matched his white life guard bathing suit..  I thought, WOW, what a hunk!!!  That started our life together!!! Through the next sixty years, we had many ups, and downs in our life like couples do.  He always supported me  in any way that  he could.   Mike gave me confidence in myself, that I could achieve whatever I wanted to do.  two examples:  He helped me study for my state board exams for my cosmetology license, quizzing me over and over until I got it right.   Being an officer's wife, there were several times we had to be in a receiving line,  Mike would introduce me to an officer and his wife, then I would have to turn and introduce this couple  to the officer next to me, this went on until everyone arrived.   Seeing how I could never remember names, I said I can't do it..  You don't say can't to Mike.   Practice, helpful hints, and self confidence works.  Mike never gave up on anybody!!!!  Mike was a wonderful father to our three children, Christine, Peter and Paul and grandfather of Deanna, Nick, Sophia and the late grandson Sammy who was always in his heart.  He was always there for all of them, and supported them in every way that he could.  I will miss and love my forever friend of sixty years, and I know, he is watching over all of us every day. Mike and I were Tully's regulars; I  loved talking about sports with him.  At Ralph Wilson Stadium, I was a ticket taker in the Van Miller Club, where Mike had Bills season tickets. I enjoyed seeing him at every game. He is and will forever be one of the most knowledgeable and dedicated Bills fans I've ever known. Someday he'll have a perfect birdseye view of the Bills winning the Super Bowl. RIP buddy ♥️

Terlecky Family--Most sincere condolences to all.  Mike and I first met in 1951 as we both attended summer session at Camp Iroquois on Keuka Lake.  We remained lifetime friends, having both completed our high school years at Elmira Free Academy, sharing many close friends.  After umpiring ball games at nearby Keuka College, Mike would come to our home for for steaks and beer on several occasions.  I'm truly honored to have been his friend.  Mike, it's good to know you're in a better place having moved beyond the last few months.  Tonight I will raise high a glass of Mich Ultra toasting our long friendship.  Rest in peace, my Friend.

I have known Mike for most of my life and he was one of my favorite classmates.  I was devastated to hear the sad news.  He was a positive and upbeat person, and a loyal, compassionate, and dear friend.  Thanks to our high school reunions, we got to reconnect after 30 years.  He helped me with finding missing classmates and with organizing our reunions.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

The world will not be the same with his departure and I will miss Mike and never forget him.  My deepest condolences to his family that he loved so deeply and was so proud of.

As a child, I would be very excited to see my Scientist Uncle. To me, that was the coolest thing ever! He was a man of many accomplishments. I was very proud to know him. He had a very positive influence in my life in many ways with sports, school, and a career path. I will never forget when he told me, "that an education is something that nobody can take away from you".  I then of course achieved a Bachelor's degree from New Mexico State University. Which he even had an influence on me choosing a duty station in New Mexico over my second choice, Italy. He would rave about New Mexico. Finally of course there's Sports Officiating. It mean't so much to me that in my first NCAA game, he was the clock operator. Your legacy will never be forgotten, you will be with me every time I take the field.  

Mike and I have been good friends since our freshman days at EFA.  He was a very special person who would do what he could do to help everyone.  His work with with the sports programs will be remembered by all who knew him.   My heart and prayers go out to his family, he will forever live in our hearts.

Mike taught me every thing I know about Umpiring. His patiance, professionalism, and knowledge was second to none. Mike would hide a quarter mile away from a game, using binoculars  to evaluate umpires. Many an umpire lost a bit of pride by the time Mike was done with chewing the bad ones out. LOL! Rest in Peace Mike. Your watch has ended. You are relieved of duty. Rest peacefully knowing your legacy will be cared for and will continue to be used in the teaching of new sports officials. Dear Terlecky family,
I was very surprised and saddened to hear that Mike had passed away.  I have known him since we were at EFA, Elmira Free Academy.  We both worked at Center Street Pool in Elmira, and had a good time not only working there, but doing competitions, and shows.  We kept in touch via e-mail, but haven't heard from him for a few years.  The last time I saw him was at our nephew's wedding, and he looked great.  He impressed my youngest brother, Jim ( when he was 5 years old ) remembers Mike from the shows doing some fun dives  off the high board at Center Street Pool.  A great guy!

CAL...Typing up those LARGE environmental reports on a Varityper in extremely small fonts so we could fit all the information on them...we called them "horseblankets" because we  had to use the biggest papers. Yet you were never nasty but always appreciative of those of us in "typing" (not a high status job). Then I had you as an instructor at UB. Incredible class. Loved it, especially when you brought in the injured eagle, live falcon, etc. And then my son also took your class and I had to go with him when you brought those beautiful creatures in again. I was shocked when I saw the article in the paper.
My deepest sympathy to your family but I know that you are at peace and maybe you will see my son and you can both enjoy seeing the eagles from a higher perspective.

Mike and I both went to U. of Buffalo..he was a year ahead of me. He used to give me rides back and forth to Elmira for school holidays. Lost track of him for several years and then through social media, we reconnected and stayed in touch.  I thought of him as a friend and always enjoyed hearing from him. He liked my family...my dad, my sister and brother....always liked hearing how they were. Awfully nice memories. My condolences to the family. And Paula, I remember you fondly from our days at EFA. My thoughts are with you all.

My husband had known Mike for years through basketball refereeing.  Mike had been an umpire at our daughter Ashley's high school and travel tournament games for years before she headed off to SUNY Geneseo.  While a student there, she played field hockey and softball.  She ran into Mike again when he umpired her collegiate games.  She was a catcher through high school and college, so she talked to Mike often behind the plate in between innings.   While at bat, with Mike umpiring, Ashley hit her first collegiate HR!  Mike was kind enough to put the ball away in his pocket to present to her at the end of her game.  It was a very kind gesture on his part, and one we and our daughter will never forget.

Mike rented space from me since 2001. Tough guy but a good guy. Demanding but fair/honest. FYI, texted him 5/20 asking if he was still staying with his son. He replied, "Yes. Couldn't do without him." Spoke with Mike last week and he wanted to confirm that he would still have access to refrigerator - he was still fighting right to the end.

Dear Terlecky family.   It was so nice getting to know Mike over the last several years hanging at Tully's.   I looked forward to our nightly talks.   Mike was was one of the smartest persons I knew. 
He knew something about everything.   His Terlecky special at Tully's  (sub Rice over Fries)  is renownedly known.   We are going to miss him very much,  he had become such a good friend.  
Our hearts go out to the entire family.    He was a very unique man.  RIP Mike.

I am honored to have known your dad. He had an amazing impact on my life with a single conversation back when Pete and I were young, dumb and full of....well, you know.  I’ve told many people that Mr. T. set me straight on a path to a teaching career and the value of being “certified “ to do something after college. He was a damn good man. So very sorry to the whole Terlecky family.  Mike was a great person to be around.  Though short in stature, Mike was well respected by all that knew him.

I spent many a summer day chatting with him as he was on his golf cart as Umpire-in-Chief of a tournament.  He always took time to say hello to me and  my wife.  

He had the gift of gab.....just an enjoyable man to be around.
