Beth Goodman Nyhan, 72 of Wilmette. Beloved wife of Thomas Nyhan; loving mother of Lauren (Jason) Macklis, Daniel (Lisa) Nyhan and Brendan (Alexis) Nyhan; proud grandmother of Emily, Hannah and Chloe Macklis, and Anna and Jack Nyhan; caring sister of Wayne (Debbie) Goodman; cherished daughter of the late Sidney and Ruth Goodman.
Beth deeply loved her best friend Tom, husband of 46 years. Beth and Tom met in law school in 1974 and their mutual respect and admiration for each other was only matched by how much they enjoyed each other’s company, whether it be traveling internationally or enjoying an evening in their beautiful backyard.
Beth was the person everyone sought out for her honest and sage advice. Many people would describe her as a best friend, including her children. She had a thoughtful solution for every problem and was a steadfast advocate for those she loved. Beth was an outstanding cook who refused to follow a recipe, and without fail, made enough food to feed the entire neighborhood. She never had to be asked for assistance or support; she was the person who just showed up. Beth’s energy and enthusiasm was unmatched. She never turned down an experience, especially one that included a shopping trip or glass of wine. Beth’s philosophy was to invite more people, give the bigger present, and be more generous – advice her friends and family will continue to live by.
Beth’s grandchildren brought her immense joy. From unplanned visits to her house to family destination vacations – Beth showered her grandchildren with love and attention (and always the most thoughtful presents). Her dedication to nurturing family traditions was unrivaled. From apple picking trips and birthday celebrations to weeknight dinners; everyone who stepped into her circle was immediately embraced. Beth took advantage of any opportunity to spend time with loved ones, and made even the most informal gatherings special.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 17, 2024, at Weinstein & Piser Funeral Home, 111 Skokie Blvd, Wilmette, IL 60091. Beth served as an educational surrogate and advocate for children without guardians. In lieu of flowers and in honor of her work, memorial contributions to the Misericordia Foundation and Lawrence Hall would be appreciated. For funeral information please call 847-256-5700.
