Catherine C. Michel

Catherine Cecilia Michel, 62, died peacefully at her home in Indianola, IA, on May 8th, after a long battle with appendiceal cancer. Catherine grew up in Wilmette and attended St. Francis Xavier grammar school, New Trier Township High School and Loyola University of Chicago. She was a long-time employee of United Airlines, serving as a flight attendant, customer service agent and corporate account executive. She later worked for several years at South School in Glencoe. While at United, she met Charles R. Simonton, her beloved husband of twenty-five years. The two shared many interests, but especially enjoyed spending time together camping, fishing and travelling. In addition to her husband, Catherine is survived by her mother, Virginia Kelly Michel, siblings, Roy W. Michel, Mary Patricia Michel and Martin Kelly Michel, two children by a previous marriage, Michel Narganes and Caroline Hull, two step-children and numerous grandchildren and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Roy W. Michel, and brother, Terence Patrick Michel. Visitation will take place on Saturday, June 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Avenue, Wilmette, IL 60091, 847-251-8200, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Interment will be private at a future date.
