Denis M. Bohm, 83, of Mettawa passed away on Sunday, October 23. Denis was a kind, loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend to many. Denis is survived by Roberta Bohm, his loving wife of 25 years and brother Robert Bohm, preceded in death by his brother Kenneth Bohm. He was the proud and devoted father and stepfather of Chris Gavlin (Tim), Denis Bohm (Claudia), Kate Smith (Tim), Matt Frank (Alison Stein), and Jason Frank (Elana), grandfather of Patrick and Bridget Gavlin(Annie), Kyle Bohm (Haley), Erin, Hayley, and Dana Smith, Evelyn Frank, Levi, Avidan, and Matan Frank, and great grandfather to Charlie and Daniel Bohm.
Born in Tiskilwa, Illinois, Denis graduated from Knox College in 1961, started his career as an early IT professional at IBM, moved on and upward to Outboard Marine, Encyclopedia Britannica, and retired as a Vice President of Premier Electronics. Denis was an involved citizen becoming a Village Trustee for Mettawa focusing on preserving the natural areas surrounding the Village. He was an active birder and long time member of the Chicago Ornithological Society. He also acted on his love of nature by serving as a Volunteer Steward for the Middlefork Savanna Forest Preserve.
Denis’ top priorities were his wife, his family and his dog, Nitro. He was a warm and active father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was fond of animals, nature, gardening, genealogy, puzzles, books, cooking, and, much to his family’s dismay, bad puns.
