I am so sorry of your passing Diane, I think of you often Diane, and always remember our Saturday painting classes with your husband Larry. and the visits we had together after class. My prayers for both of you and for the boys. To your sons: always remember that your parents truely loved you.


To Diane's Sons.  I am a cousin in the Ladon family. Met your mother years ago, and we had been emailing ever since. I am so sorry about her passing.  My husband died on May 29th in Tucson, so we hadn't written in a while.  I tried to call her when I came to Chicago on July 25th and found her phone disconnected. Dear children, 

Our family was deeply saddened when we learned from Marylou that you had lost your mother, Diane Shrago. We are thinking of you and send our heartfelt sympathy. We know that Diane valued her phone calls with her dear friend and my mother, Marylou. She was devoted to her family and friends and loved to be surrounded by her children and grandchildren. 

“May God console you among the other mourners of Zion and Jerusalem.”

Dear Princess Di—I can’t believe you are gone. I am sitting here waiting for my phone to ring. This would be our second conversation of the day. You would be asking me what I was having for dinner, telling me Joel is taking you out to dinner, and then “jaw-jack” about our grandchildren. We both loved the photos Evan would send of the twins and our ballet dancer Lauren. This telephone call would last 15-20 minutes, my food was burning, and Joel was coming to pick you up.  Before we went to bed, we talked again.  And, naturally in the morning we had to tell each other how we slept, our aches and pains, and what we were going to do that day. Since we lived an hour and a half from each other, we certainly closed the distance gap via the telephone. This routine continued for over ten years.  
My days will be lonely without you. My phone won’t be ringing. We won’t be swapping recipes. I can hear your voice yelling at me, “You sound like Sarah!” every time I disagreed with you. Our voices would get heated, and then we would agree to disagree. As we said when we hung up our telephones, “Hugs and Kisses—I love you.” 
I will always be here for your family. RIP

I'm truly grateful you were in my life. How many memories I have of sitting at your kitchen table and talking. You were always supportive of whatever direction my life turned, and always interested in hearing about what I was doing. Your art work and artistic nature, and your unconventional take on life was inspiring. How sad I was to hear of the struggles you had later on. Your compassion was boundless, and I and others are the better for it. I am so glad for the last two conversations I had with you, as you seemed entirely like your old self, though you were still very ill. I truly thought you would recover and have more time with your children, grandchildren, and the rest of us. How sad I am that that did not happen. Hoping you are at peace, painting beautiful pictures. My love and condolences to Evan, Brian, Joel, and  their families.

You will be missed, Diane. I've known you and worked with you for years. Iam truly sorry it ended so quickly but you will be in the hearts and minds of your sons and grandchildren forever.

Diane, I am so sorry for all the suffering you had to go through, then for this to happen. I was really looking forward to things to getting back to normal. How you called my Mom & me, checking how it went at our doctors appointments or what we were up to, etc. I know you talked to my Mom every day a few times a day & indirectly to me too, I will miss you very much. DIANE WAS MY FIRST CLIENT WHEN HER MOTHER, THE LATE REVA ROSTON, DIED IN 1967.  I HAD A LONG AND WARM PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH DIANE, HER LATE HUSBAND AND MOTHER (SARAH GORDON), EVAN, BRIAN AND JOEL. I WILL MISS HER GREATLY.

To Brian, Joel, Evan and the entire Shrago Family: I am so sorry for your loss; our loss. Your Mom was one of the most incredibly giving people I have ever known and was so devoted to her family. When my daughter died Diane was my role model on how to handle family tragedy because of what she experienced with your dad. I will also miss talking to her but find great comfort in the knowledge I gained from our friendship and the love and friendship she gave me with her boys and their families of which she was so proud. I am so lucky to have been her close friend for all these years. Garry Apelian.

Diane, you will be missed. Just knowing you have always been there was a pleasure. Now hoping that your continuing journey brings you joy and light like never before. Look down upon us with the same care you shared with us while here. We still need you and hope for your blessings as we share with you ours.

Diane loved the dearest and most beautiful parts of life...art,animals and nauture's beauty.  We had a special connection in our love of animals.  I am deeply saddened by her passing and wish her true peace.  Blessings to her sons...dearly loved by Diane.  She was so proud of them.

God's arms are open to you, Diane. I'll miss you terribly. May you be at sweet peace.
