Donna Stone (neé Adelman), 89, beloved wife of 60 years of the late Howard Stone; loving mother of Julie Hainsfurther and mother-in-law of the late Bruce Hainsfurther; devoted Nonna of Jennifer (Craig) Saperstein, Joel (Shana) Hainsfurther, and Jordan (Sarah) Hainsfurther; adoring great-grandmother of Jacob and Hanna Saperstein.
Born in Wisconsin, Nonna moved to Chicago, Illinois to attend nursing school at Michael Reese Hospital and later worked as a school nurse for many years. Together with Howard, whom she met in Chicago, she amassed an influential contemporary art collection while supporting the Chicago art community. They were avid travelers, and particularly enjoyed traveling with their grandchildren. Nonna devoted countless hours volunteering her time to the Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Institute of Chicago, the AIDS Foundation of Chicago, and various other Chicago institutions. Anyone who knew Nonna knew that she loved her family above all else, had a terrific sense of humor, and enjoyed a good bottle of wine and a mimosa.
Contributions may be made to any art institution of your choosing. A memorial service will be held in Chicago, Illinois at a later date.
