Frances Don Roston, age 98, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026, in Glenview, Illinois. Frances was born on April 1, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, to Beatrice and Reuben Don. She grew up in the Rogers Park neighborhood of Chicago alongside her identical twin brothers, Allen and Jerome. As a child, Frances cherished her summers at Bryn Mawr Country Club, where she discovered a lifelong love of golf.
Frances graduated from Sullivan High School and attended the University of Michigan before meeting the love of her life, Louis Roston, who had recently returned home from World War II. Frances and Louis were married on April 12, 1947, at the Standard Club in Chicago, beginning a devoted partnership that lasted a lifetime.
Frances and Louis were loving parents to two children, Peggy and the late Andrew. They were true companions, sharing a love of travel, socializing with friends—many of whom they had known since childhood—and, of course, golf. Their passion for travel and their love of golf took them around the world, including a memorable trip to Scotland and Ireland, where they played on some of the most renowned courses in the world. At a time when many married women of her generation did not work, Frances found fulfillment and independence working in finance at Barat College in Lake Forest, Illinois. Longtime residents of Highland Park, Illinois, after Louis retired from his career as a sales manager, the couple spent their winters enjoying the sunshine in Atlantis, Florida.
Frances was also a competitive bridge player who delighted in outsmarting her opponents and tallying her wins. During the last decade of her life, she resided at Mather Place in Wilmette, Illinois, where she found a vibrant community and embraced her love of movies. As chair of the film committee, Frances organized movie screenings for her fellow residents, bringing residents together through her enthusiasm. Frances was a member of North Shore Congregation Israel in Glencoe, Illinois.
Frances was a loving daughter to Beatrice and Reuben, cherished sister to late brothers Allen (Elizabeth) and Jerry (Florence), devoted wife to the late Louis, loving mother to Peggy and Andrew, cherished grandmother of Maureen Mueller (Jeff) and Brendan Trickey (Emily), proud great-grandmother of Sloane, Jack, Sage, and Forest, and caring aunt to Marcia Don Harpaz (Yacov Harpaz), the late Laurie Don, Russell (Betsy) Don, David Roston, Jay Roston (Bonnie), Judy Freilich (Bob), Laurie Rosen (Bob), Carl Roston (Wendy), the late Jeff Roston, the late Gordon Roston, and the late Diane Shrago.
Frances will be remembered for her joyful smile, competitive spirit, sharp mind, and deep enjoyment of friendship, fashion, and family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to National Jewish Health in remembrance of Andrew Roston.
