Obituary of Gillian M. Wolf
Gillian Wolf was born the daughter of a barrister and a woman who should have been a barrister. Gill (pronounced “Jillian,” “Jill,” and never like “Gilligan”) loved art, music, museums and education, holding two Master’s degrees, one in journalism and one in linguistics. She was a life story kind of person, meaning she could elicit one from anybody in a matter of minutes, and she always listened with interest. She cared for the powerless, for the penniless. Gill spent a good portion of her working life teaching English as a second language and promoting literacy. Gill baked her own bread long, long before it was trendy. She’d walk around the kitchen and suddenly the mixer was clattering. A specialist in what she called “handful soup,” every holiday she threw a bunch of stuff into a slow cooker, left it to simmer for a day or more and turned it into magic. Gill –who is likely now catching up with her son Saul— is survived by her husband of 53 years, Raoul, her daughter, Isa-Lee, her grandson, Knight, and a sense of humor that will stand the test of time. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 12, 2022, 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be private. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at for the Wolf family.
