Fern and Jerry,

I am so sorry to hear about Neal. He taught me a lot about being a person and also about being a doctor. I have so many memories of him both in and out of the
hospital. He was one of a kind and I think the best word to describe him was mensch. I hope all the good memories can soften your pain. He was blessed to have the greatest parents. We lost a tremendous person in Neal but I bet he is keeping an eye on us. All our love,

I am sorry to hear about Neal. He was such a positive person given the all of the challenges he dealt with over the years. He never seemed to complain or feel sorry. I remember all of the dinners, parties at the old and new houses. I will always remember the rides he would give Nina and Linda on his chair. I know my mom is waiting for him up stairs with open arms and will take care of him. You both should be proud of yourselves for being such wonderful caring parents for these past decades. your devotion and unrelenting support for Neal was an inspiration to all. Dear Fern and Jerry,I have lost a true friend and an ambassador.Neal would light up any room and people would congregate around Neal.I would often sit in his hospital room and listen to his music. I missed our time when he could talk and use his passee-muir valve. We would have conversations about people.life and the Bulls. The biggest thrill is when the house was being built. Neal was so proud of the bricks,angle,dirt and foundation of the house. I watched many of video's of the house being built.Neal had a sarcastic sense of humor. "Wonder who he GOT THAT from"! Neal had played a great role in educating the doctors and nurses. The Goldens are my family.I have lost my Neal, but he will always be in my heart. The Golden family will always be my family.

My heart is heavy. I have thought of all of you so many times over the years. I have so many wonderful memories of being in your home. Sadness, tears and coworkers' hugs pervaded the Glenbrook Hospital ICU yesterday when we heard of Neal's passing. It has been our privilege to care for Neal for so many years. Neal, Fern, and Jerry have shown us all how to find the joys in each day while facing and conquering the adversities of life. We will never forget Neal's smile and the twinkle in his eyes and the generosity of spirit and friendship conveyed to all of us. We have truly felt a part of your extended family. You taught us by example the full meaning of advocacy and how to look past limitations to 
maximize potential and live life to the fullest each and every day. We shed tears of sorrow with you. We smile as we share fond memories of Neal. Neal and both of you, Fern and Jerry, will always be part of the Glenbrook ICU family.
