Norman Joseph Rubash, born March 2, 1932 in East McKeesport, PA to Joseph Robert and Anna Peckman Rubash, passed away, August 13, surrounded by his loving family. Norm began his work in the oil business in the fields of West Texas, and worked 40+ years in the international oil business. He earned a BS degree in petroleum engineering from Penn State University, a law degree from the University of Pittsburgh, and is a graduate of the management program of Stanford University.
Norm served as president of Standard Oil of Indiana operations in the UK, Egypt, and Canada, and eventually of all overseas exploration and production, based in Chicago.
Norm retired in 1991, and he and his wife Alice enjoyed a long and fruitful retirement. They were longtime members of First Presbyterian Church Evanston where Norm served as an elder, a Stephen’s Ministry Leader, a member of the Mission Team and on the National Pilgrimage Leadership Council. He served on the board of Opportunity International and supported Bright Stars of Bethlehem. Their other passion has been creating their wildlife sanctuary, Longview Farm in Wisconsin.
Norm is survived by his beloved wife Alice, three daughters and sons-in-law, Jim and Karen Hudson, Jim and Amy McAuley, and Brad and Janet Getz, ten grandchildren and two brothers, Duane and Arlyn Rubash.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 16, 3-7 PM at Wm. H. Scott Funeral Home, 1100 Greenleaf Avenue, Wilmette. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 24, 2 PM at First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, 1427 Chicago Avenue, Evanston.
