Peggy L. Phillips

She married her high school sweetheart, Marvin Phillips in 1950. They moved into the house that Marvin built on Smith Creek Road outside of Waynesburg, PA in 1956. Peggy resided there until 2009 when she moved to Illinois to be near her daughter and family.

Peggy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always putting family first. She was an excellent seamstress and craftsperson and sold her Boone Hollow Baskets at craft fairs throughout Greene County. Peggy continued making baskets when she moved to Covenant Village and was the resident basket lady there. She was a long-time member of Fairall United Methodist Church.

Surviving are son Mike (Karen Shogren) Phillips, of Greensburg, PA; daughter Mindy (Jef) Heidekat of Wilmette, IL; grandchildren Marc Phillips, Dale (Rami) Heidekat Fakhouri and Jay Heidekat of Chicago, IL, and Eric (Coleen) Phillips of Grove City, PA; great-grandchildren Judah and Malachai Phillips; sisters-in-law Doris, Ellen and Cathy Yost; and many nieces, nephews, and long time friends. Preceding her in death are her husband Marvin and three brothers: Joe Duane, Roddie and Larry Yost.

She will be remembered as a loving, kind, and caring friend who was always there to lend a helping hand. She walked with a smile and greeted everyone on her path.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Aug 8 in the Fellowship Center at Covenant Village of Northbrook, 2625 Techny Rd. Northbrook, IL. A memorial service for friends and family back home will be held at Fairall United Methodist Church on October 17 at 11 AM. Peggy’s ashes will be interred alongside those of her beloved husband Marvin in the Fairall Church Cemetery.
