Richard "Rick" Stern died peacefully at home surrounded by his family and closest friends. He was born and raised in the Chicagoland area, and spent most of his youth in Evanston, Illinois where he met his wife Patricia. Rick and Pat settled in Skokie, where they raised two amazing children, Jenny and Brian.
Rick treasured any time spent with family and friends, his dogs, and he enjoyed socializing in different ways from going to sporting events to attending theater and concerts. He especially loved going to amusement parks with his children and later in life his grandchildren. Disney World held a special place in his heart and would try to make it there as often as he could. He was an enthusiastic motorcyclist, skilled snow skier and loved watching auto racing.
He was an amazing father and was there for his children to celebrate each milestone, whether it be sitting in his folding chair Slurpee in hand at sports or showing support in their endeavors in his own way. He was a light hearted soul, and enjoyed telling his corn ball dad jokes whenever an opportunity arose. He was a hard worker and spent most of his career in purchasing. His humor and personality made the office a more enjoyable place to work and he was a friend to many of his colleagues and business acquaintances.
One of his life’s pleasures was to share activities he loved with his grandchildren Matthew and Tommy who lovingly knew him as Papa Rick. Papa Rick loved spending time with his grandsons Matthew and Tommy and was always so proud of their accomplishments. He attended school shows, graduations and many sports games with a smile on his face.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents Arnold and Shirley Stern and his brother David Stern(Nadine). He is survived by his wife Pat; daughter Jennifer Beckman(Tony), son Brian Stern; his grandchildren Matthew and Thomas Beckman; his sister Peggy Gullo(Frank), brother Steven Stern; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces, and grand nephews. He is also survived by his dogs Max and Rosie, and his grand dog Paige.
