Shirley (Sarah) Margolis, 86, of Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, resilience, and creativity. Born in Chicago to Eva (Rivka) and Charles Kaniuk, Shirley lived a life marked by grace, strength, and an unwavering devotion to her family.
Shirley’s journey was one of dedication and service. After earning her GED, she contributed several years of her life to the Federal Government, showcasing her strong work ethic and commitment to her country. Later, she continued to touch lives through her work at Montgomery Ward, where her kindness and diligence left a lasting impression on colleagues and friends alike.
But Shirley’s true legacy lies in the warmth and love she poured into her family. A nurturing mother and loving wife, she was the glue that held her family together through life’s toughest storms, offering steadfast support and compassion. Her home was a haven filled with laughter, love, and the irresistible aroma of her home-cooked meals. Because of Shirley's strong Jewish values, She was the one who initiated the need to send her son Baruch to an orthodox Hebrew school - Ari Crown, so he could learn what it means to be Jewish and the responsibilities that this entails. Among her many cherished family moments, she collaborated with her son to create a beloved chili recipe that became a standout at his restaurant—a testament to her creativity and her deep bond with her children.
In her early years, Shirley’s vibrant spirit was unmistakable. While living in Denver, Colorado, she modeled for catalogs, and her beautiful soprano voice earned her second place on the Morris B. Sax Hour TV show. Shirley found joy in music and dancing from a young age, and her creativity knew no bounds. She loved to draw and paint, using her art to express the beauty she saw in the world around her.
After the passing of her beloved husband, Marvin (Moshe) Margolis, to whom she was married for 32 years, Shirley faced life’s challenges with remarkable determination and resilience. She learned to drive later in life, embodying her independent spirit and unwavering courage. Despite life’s trials, her greatest passion remained her family. She poured her heart into every moment shared with her loved ones, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories that will be cherished forever.
Shirley will be remembered not only for her talents and accomplishments but for the warmth, love, and joy she brought to everyone who knew her. Her legacy of resilience, creativity, and unconditional love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
