

Alice Horton Wood, 93, of Wilmington, NC, passed away Thursday, March 10, 2011, at Davis Health Care Center. She was born in South Carolina on September 23, 1917, daughter of the late Charlie Horton and Minnie Moore Horton, and was the widow of Walter Lane Wood, Jr. Mrs. Wood worked as a secretary in the family business, Wood & Son Refrigeration, along with her husband until his death in 1979. She was a member of Winter Park Baptist Church and for a while attended Ogden Baptist Church where she was active in the vacation bible school program. When not busy helping to raise her children and grandchildren, she enjoyed working on crafts, quilting, and crocheting. She is also remembered as a wonderful cook, and one who enjoyed canning, baking fruitcakes, and especially going crabbing and spotting bargains at local auctions. She and her husband, Walter, also loved serving the Lord. Surviving are her two children, Alice Wood Webb Guyton and William L. ""Billy"" Wood both of Wilmington; three grandchildren, Randy Webb Sharon of Hampstead, Shella Williams of Wilmington, and Angie Wood Casha Keith of Rocky Point; also seven great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 12, 2011, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel with the Rev. Mark Teachey and Dr. Charles Allen officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the service hour. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park.
