

Christopher Ray Gurganious, 50, of Wilmington, passed away at his home on May 6, 2026. Chris was a hardworking man, a loyal friend, and a devoted father whose warm smile and unforgettable laugh brought comfort and joy to those around him. He loved his family deeply and was happiest at home with his children, devoted to raising them alongside Heather. He also had a special love for animals and, over the years, cared for many dogs that he considered part of the family.
Chris had a lifelong love for baseball, a passion he shared first with his father and brothers, and later with his children and nieces. He spent many years coaching teams and looked forward to every opportunity to be at the ballfield with those he loved. He also looked forward to his family’s yearly vacations to Pirateland, a cherished tradition started by his parents, and enjoyed spending time with his family there, making countless memories over the years.
He will be remembered for his kind heart, sense of humor, and the happiness he shared so freely.
Chris was born in Wilmington on March 30, 1976, to the late Billy and Brenda Gurganious. He attended New Hanover High School and worked for the City of Wilmington for 25 years.
Chris is survived by his children, Christopher Luke Gurganious and Krislynn Paige Gurganious; Heather Gurganious, with whom he shared many years and raised his family; his brothers, Gene Gurganious and Dean (Denise) Gurganious; his sister, Tammy (Doug) Turley; and his sister-in-law, Beth Gurganious.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Brenda Gurganious; his brothers, Keith Gurganious and John Gurganious; and his daughter, Jordan Kelly.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, May 12th from 5-6 PM, followed by a service at 6 PM at the Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S. College Rd., Wilmington.
Chris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
