David Griffin

David Griffin, affectionately known as "Papa Dave" to all his children's friends, left his weary, earthly body behind and joined his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on April 9, 2014. He was born on November 12, 1949, the son of the late Wilbur Dennis Griffin and Dorothy Gratzick Griffin. David was also preceded in death by a brother, William Joseph Griffin. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army after serving 15 ½ years before being injured and had been assigned to 1st Bn. (Mech) 120th Inf. NCARNG. David was proud to be a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of Federal Point Lodge. He had also been a charter member of AREME #372 O.E.S. David is survived by his wife, Melissa Bowden Griffin; three children, Heidi Griffin Lea and her husband Mark of Rosepine, La., Amanda Ashley Griffin of Wallace, NC, and David Warren Griffin of Wallace. David also leaves a brother, Wilbur Dennis Griffin, Jr., of Wilmington, NC; sister-in-law, Jackie Griffin of Wilmington; brother-in-law, Walter C. Bowden, III of Wilmington; three grandsons, Travis, Jacob and Ethan Lea of Rosepine, La; a niece, Rebecca Griffin Clark of Charlotte, NC and a very special nephew, Wilbur Dennis Griffin, III and his wife Katie of Wilmington. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, April 14, 2014 at Castle Hayne Advent Christian Church conducted by Pastor W. Randall Smith. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at Andrews Mortuary, Market Street Chapel.
