It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward Brooks Hall, Jr., 49, of Wilmington, NC on Thursday, February 23, 2023. Ted was a remarkable person, full of love and kindness who had an unending generosity, patience, humor, and most of all love. He was a fantastic father of 7, a loving husband, and dear friend and will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
Ted was born at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital in Aurora, CO on June 30, 1973. He grew up in Merrimack, NH and attended Merrimack High School from 1987-1991 where he was a member of the varsity soccer, ski, and cheerleading teams.
He attended University of Massachusetts Amherst from 1991-1993 where he was a member of the Men’s soccer team, Cheerleading team, and Golden Key National Honor Society. He subsequently transferred to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME in 1993 where he played goalkeeper and captained the Men’s soccer team. He was a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon and graduated in 1995 with a degree in Political Science and Government, with a minor in French.
Ted worked as a litigation assistant at Hale and Dorr Law Firm in Boston, MA from 1995-1997. He went on to work as an Account Executive at Hewitt Associates from 1997-2012. In 2012-2013 he took a hiatus from the business world and worked as the movement teacher at Pine Hill Waldorf School in Wilton, NH where his children attended. After moving to Chapel Hill, NC he became the Athletic Director and at Emerson Waldorf school. In 2021, he returned to the business world and became a strategic account executive at Alight Solutions.
Ted had a life-long passion for athletics and was an avid skier and water skier, completed countless triathlons and iron mans, but mostly loved teaching the next generation how to develop a love of nature and sports.
Ted found joy in the simplest pleasures in life and enjoyed spending time playing in the surf at the beach and watching his children chasing seagulls. He also loved spending summers at his family camp on Lake Winnipesaukee where hours were spent swimming, sailing, hiking, enjoying time with family, and watching beautiful sunsets.
Ted is survived by his wife, Gina, and their 7 children: Bradley, Teddy, Caroline, Emily, Betty, Rosie, and Charlie ranging in age from 4-19. Other survivors include his father, Dr. Edward Hall of Tuftonboro, NH; brothers, Dr. Timothy Hall (Sarah) of York, ME and Andrew Hall (Mindy) of Tuftonboro, NH; grandmother, Jacqueline Freese of Naples, FL; and many Freese relatives from Concord, NH; also many relatives from the Hall family of Brookline, NH. He is predeceased by his mother, Judith Freese Hall.
We will honor Ted at his funeral service Thursday, March 2nd at 1:00pm. The service will be held at Pine Valley Methodist Church located at 3788 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, NC 28412.
The family will host a viewing the day before, from 3pm-5pm Wednesday, March 1st at Andrews Market Street Chapel located at 1617 Market Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.
All are welcome as Ted would say, “Love is Big!” And our love for you is truly that.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Harbor Homes (Harbor Care), where Ted served as board chair for many years. This organization is near and dear to the Halls as Ted’s grandmother, Betty Hall, was one of the founders and worked tirelessly to help end homelessness for veterans.
Online condolences may be shared with the family, here, in the guestbook.
