Elisabeth Craig Miller

She was born on February 16, 1924 in Boston, MA. The daughter of the late Charles Bernard Craig and Helen Golding Craig, “Betty” was also predeceased by her beloved husband of 49 years, Roswell Miller, Jr. and a grandson, Robert Burke.

At an early age, Betty showed a great interest in the arts, from dance recitals at age 4 to acting in summer stock stage productions as a young adult. After graduating from the Leland Powers School of Theater Boston where she met her life’s partner Ross, Betty joined the faculty of the Randall School of the Arts and was soon both teaching and broadcasting on radio and eventually television. Among her students was Ted Knight of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Early in her career, Betty worked in radio in Greenfield, MA and Hartford, CT. She was a pioneer in women’s broadcasting in Hartford radio. After marrying Ross, they worked together on the first known husband and wife call-in radio talk show known as the “Miller Party Line.” Betty was a devout Catholic and was well-known in the liturgical community throughout southern New England doing numerous speaking engagements and was active in the Christian Conference of Connecticut. She was elected to the position of Vice President of the National Council of Catholic Women. Betty also was an officer for over 27 years on the Board of Directors of the Automobile Club of Hartford. She loved to travel and worked in the industry leading tour groups throughout Europe and eastern Canada.

Surviving Betty are her five children and their spouses, Lisa Miller-Bonadies of Wilmington, NC, Mark Miller and wife Annie of Wilmington, NC, Alison Miller Burke and husband Michael of W. Hartford, CT, Peter Miller and wife Heather of Wilmington, NC, and Paula Miller Thibault and husband David of Lyndeborough, NH; thirteen grandchildren, Christopher Quish, Allison Quish Lyons, Nicholas Bonadies, Gena Bonadies Masi, Eva Miller, Jessica Miller, Aaron Burke, Katharine Burke, Andrew Miller, Patrick Miller, Ben Thibault, Alex Miller Thibault and Wyatt Thibault; and seven great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 11:00 am at All Saints Catholic Church in Hampstead, NC with Rev. John Durbin officiating. Burial will be at a later date in East Lempster Cemetery in New Hampshire.

The family wishes to thank the attending staff from Lower Cape Fear Hospice in her last days and especially her home care giver, Wanda Thompson for the loving companionship and aid to Betty over this past year.
