
Emerson J. Bonner, 87, of Wilmington, transitioned on Friday, July 22, 2011. He was born in Wilmington on December 16, 1923 and spent 40 years in Chicago, IL as a devoted member of Our Lady of Peace Choir, before returning to Wilmington. He is a WWII Veteran and a life member of the Disabled Veterans.
Mr. Bonner is preceded in death by two sisters; Anne Elizabeth Bonner Fuller and Margaret Bonner Everett.
He is survived by one daughter, Maria B. Jones (Wilmington); one adopted daughter, Maria Catron (IL); one son, Ronald Bonner (GA); special son-in-law Andre L. Jones (Wilmington); one brother-in-law, Colonel Thomas W. Fuller (GA); 4 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 3 nephews. A special thanks to extended family and friends that have assisted him in times of need.
A visitation will take place Tuesday, July 26, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel. A funeral service will be Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 11 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church, officiated by Fr. Bob Kus. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Church Gospel Choir, the Alzheimer’s Association, and Our Lady of Peace Choir, Chicago, IL.
