Grace B. Liberman

Grace lost her courageous battle with brain cancer and spent her last days with loving relatives and friends by her side at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.

Grace was born in Hemmingway, SC to the late M.D. and Lillie Brown, but lived in Wilmington for 64 years. She is survived by her husband Jim, daughter Julia K. Talton and husband Michael, grandchildren: Kelsey, Morgan, and David; brothers, Jerry Brown and wife Hanne, Ralph Brown and wife Terry; sisters, Jean Scoggins and husband Dwight, Juanita Benton, Irene Brock, and husband Jimmy; and many nieces and nephews.

Grace was the assistant to each CEO at NHRMC from 1968 until she retired at the end of 1995. Grace and her husband Jim were world travelers, visiting 88 countries on 6 continents. Her favorite area was South & East Africa. Grace was an active volunteer in New Hanover County including an airport ambassador, Meals on Wheels, hospice, and Red Cross. Grace organized and coordinated all social activities for retirees of NHRMC. She also was a committee member for all New Hanover High School, Class of 59’ reunions and functions. She maintained a close friendship with classmates and hospital retirees throughout the years. Grace was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and an associate member of B’nai Israel synagogue. Grace was a beautiful gracious southern lady who loved and was loved by everyone she knew. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, classmate, and work associate. She will be greatly missed by all.

The family will receive friends, Monday, June 13, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Coble Ward-Smith, Oleander Chapel. Funeral services will take place Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, Market St. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Grace’s honor can be made to the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Foundation, 1414 Physicans Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
