Henry E. Miller, Jr.

Henry Eugene Miller, Jr., 85, of Wrightsville Beach, NC, died Monday, October 16, 2023. He was born on December 4, 1937, in Swainsboro, GA, to the late Henry Eugene Miller and Sallie Jo Parker Miller.  Gene was also preceded in death by his sister, Judith Miller Delaney (Jack), and his granddaughter, Paige Miller Bratton.

Gene graduated from New Hanover High School in 1956 and received a BS degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State College in 1961.  He enlisted in the United States Army Reserve in 1958 and was incredibly proud of his appointment as a Reserve Commission Officer in the grade of Second Lieutenant on July 31, 1962. He was promoted to First Lieutenant and served in the United States Army Corps of Engineers and Traffic Corps.

Surviving family members include his wife Sylvia Thompson Miller; son Henry Eugene Miller III and wife Maggie of Wrightsville Beach; daughters Susan Paige Miller of Wilmington and Laura Miller Blair and husband Ian of Bethel, ME; and affectionately “Poppy” to his grandchildren Laura Bratton, Ella Blair, Huntley Blair, Henry Miller IV, and Mac Miller.  Additionally, he is survived by his niece Constance Delaney Brown (Doug) of Indianapolis, IN; nephew John Dearborn Delaney, Jr. (Michelle) of Orlando, FL; niece Kristen Delaney Atteberry (Brian) of Carmel, IN; aunt Martha Jean Parker Craft of Wilmington, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 27, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church.  The family will hold a private burial before the service and receive friends following the service in Gilmour Hall at the church.

The family would like to thank Gene’s caregivers, Genesio Mmbui, Allen Sutton, and Orlando Murphy, for all their kindness and support for Gene and Sylvia.
