Hilda Stanley Smith

Hilda Stanley Smith, age 95, of Wilmington, N.C., passed away Friday, February 19, 2021.

She was born July 29, 1925 in Columbus County, N.C., a daughter of the late Pearson A. Stanley Sr. and Mattie Floyd Stanley. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Brooks Smith in 1998, her sisters, Durema Carroll, Ileta Gano, Carolyn Ann Stanley, and a brother, Pearson A. Stanley Jr.

She is survived by her sister, Ethel Wrublewski.

Hilda graduated from Tabor City High School in 1942, and began a 40 year career with Bell Telephone, holding various positions with the company in Wilmington, N.C., Charleston, S.C., Miami and West Palm Beach, Fla. and Greensboro, N.C. She retired as a training supervisor. After retirement, she and Ed traveled on several overseas trips. She volunteered at the Salvation Army, was a charter member of the Pilot Club, and worked as a Poll Worker for many years. Hilda and Ed attended Lake Forest Baptist Church where she was a charter member.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Burt Vezina officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Forest Baptist Church, 1626 Lake Branch Drive, Wilmington, N.C. 28401, or a charity of your choice.
