Ira Edwin Lowe passed away on December 27, 2014 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care surrounded by his loving and adoring family who stayed with him day and night never leaving him alone. He was born September 20, 1934. He graduated from Pratt Institute with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree. In college, Ira was a supporter of the Industrial Home for the Blind in Brooklyn, NY. He served as a Lt. in the US Army Signal Corps and trained at Ft. Bragg, NC. Left behind is his adoring wife Marie who he cared for more than anything else in this world; sons, Richard and Evan; stepchildren, Coleen, Cheryl, Timothy and Steven; grandchildren, Olivia, Ruby, Caitlin, Andee, Lucy and Daniel; caring sister, Anita; sweet family dog, Boone and his beloved parrots, Max and Cleo. His favorite thing to do was to play tennis, photograph beautiful things, travel, created beautiful garden art and could fix anything. He loved to glide across the dance floor with Marie at the Cotillion Club and worked tirelessly with his wife to build a beautiful South Western style home in Wilmington, NC. Everyone who knew Ira cared for him immensely and would do anything for him. He leaves this world too soon, but will always stay in the hearts of all who knew him. Graveside services will take place at Oleander Memorial Gardens at 1pm, Wednesday, December 31, 2014 followed by a celebration of his life buffet for friends and family starting at 2:30pm, at Osteria Ciccetti, 5104 South College Rd., at Monkey Junction. The family wants this gathering to be joyful and filled with all the humor and remembrances of good times he shared with all who knew him. That was his style and the way he would want it. One of Ira's outstanding life achievements was to support Fischer House at Ft. Bragg for wounded soldier's families. In lieu of flowers, please continue his devotion to this cause by making donations to Ft. Bragg Fischer House, NC in his honor.
