

James (Jim) Richard Cottle, 74, passed away peacefully at home January 5, 2022. He was born August 4, 1947, to the late James Henry and Edna Hargrove Cottle. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings Linda Burns, Brenda Wright, and Felix Ray Cottle. He was also preceded in death by his son James Richard (Rich) Cottle and grandson Steven Bayley Smith.
Jim graduated from New Hanover High School in 1967. After beginning as a residential real estate developer and broker, he went on to work for Georgia Pacific until his retirement. Always the businessman and professional, he then started Trailers Unlimited in Rocky Point, a company now owned and operated by his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Mike Smith.
Jim had a contagious smile, a quick wit, and an outstanding personality. He never met a stranger and was always willing to help others. He loved riding his Harley and was also an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife Joy Worrell Cottle, daughter Dawn Cottle Smith and husband Mike, grandsons Seth Michael Smith and Mason Alexander Estes, and granddaughter Bethanie Roberts Pantlin.
Jim was a devoted husband, the best daddy a girl could ask for, and a loving grandfather. He will be missed by all who knew him.
