Jimmy, as he was lovingly called by friends and family, was born on December 17, 1948 to James Carroll Dixon and Betty Lou Smith Dixon in Metter, Georgia.
He lived his rambunctious young life in Georgia with his sister Patricia, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends nearby.
His early jobs included tobacco farming, barber/shoe shining at his grandfather’s barber shop and airplane manufacturing.
He had a thirty plus year career at General Electric, beginning as a machine operator and ended as a Safety Instructor.
After Jimmy retired, he enjoyed spending time working in his yard, reading/studying his Bible, and being with his family. He was not an idle man and began working as a porter with Bob King Auto.
He was a faithful member of Scotts Hill Baptist Church where he also volunteered operating the sound system for Sunday services. Jimmy was a man of God and set a Christian example in his daily life.
He was an amazing father and “Papa” to his grandchildren who were his heart. He was the most humble gentle soul, and the kindest man to everyone. He left us with the gift of compassion, strength and unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.
Jimmy was a devoted, loving husband and caregiver to his late wife Odessa Dixon. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife/mother of his children, Joann Dixon.
He is survived by his children, daughter Cindy Dixon Grant and son David C. Dixon; grandchildren, Gabe Ruddell and his wife Makayla, David Ruddell, Chloe Ruddell, Lily Ruddell, Cutter Grant, Ella Dixon Kline, and Parker Dixon; great-grandchildren, Rose and Micah Ruddell; his loving sister, Patricia Harrill and brother-in-law, Chuck. He is also survived by Odessa’s daughters, Vonda Mason (David) and Cindy Baxendale (James) with their 4 children and 1 great-grandson.
The family will hold a visitation at 1:00pm on Friday, February 16, 2024 until his celebration of life service begins at 2:00pm at Andrews Mortuary in Hampstead, NC.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Trinity Grove Nursing Home in appreciation to the staff who lovingly cared for him.
