

Jane Roper Hughes, 85, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2015 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center with family by her side. Born in Rockingham, NC, April 6th, 1929, she was Miss Wilmington in 1948. She owned and operated Jane's School of Dance in Wilmington for over 30 years, teaching dance to many area residents. She was a lifetime member of the Hanover Seaside Club and an active member at Temple Baptist Church. Over the years, she had served on several church committees, taught Sunday school, helped with and sang in the choirs, and enjoyed being on a cooking team. Jane was the daughter of the late Thomas Burbank Roper and Blanche Roper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Holt Hughes. She was a loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Surviving are a daughter, Betsy Hughes-Formella and husband Joern Formella, and a grandson, Niels Formella, all of Germany, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. Jane will always be remembered for her energetic spirit, smile, and unconditional love for her family and friends. Funeral services will be held graveside at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, NC on Tuesday, April 7th, 2015 at 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church or Hospice.
