Janet Preble Wilson

Janet Preble Wilson of Wilmington died on January 16.  She was born in Hobart, Indiana, on January 25, 1935, the daughter of the late Maurice Percy Preble, Sr and Mildred Curry Preble.

Her family moved to St. Augustine, FL in 1944. She graduated from Ketterlinus High School in St. Augustine, FL and attended Tampa University in Tampa FL.  She also attended Cape Fear College and UNCW.

Jan and her husband John moved to Wilmington, NC in 1967.  She worked as a secretary for the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina until it relocated to Kinston, NC.  She then became the secretary at St. Andrew’s On-the-Sound Episcopal Church until her retirement in 1992.  Her favorite pastime was spending time with her nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  When she and John took vacations in their motorhome they were often accompanied by their grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband, John Harrington Wilson Sr; her daughter, Sandra W. Hunt, Wendell, NC; her three sons, John H. Wilson Jr. (Jermaine), Melbourne FL; Wade S. Wilson (Ashley), Wilmington, NC, and Mark V. Wilson (Julie), Wilmington NC; her sister, Dorothy P. Delaney (Ken) of St. Augustine FL; brother, Ron Preble (Lisa), St. Augustine FL; her sister-in-law, Janet Preble of St. Augustine FL; beloved grandchildren, Walter Skellie Hunt V, Elliot Wilson Hunt, Sloan Hunt Glenn (Adam), John H. Wilson, III, Sajara Angeles Wilson, Spencer Burton Wilson (Charlotte), Emily Dianne Wilson, Mark Van Wilson, Jr. and Lila Jane Wilson; and great-granddaughter, Rose Isabela Wilson; and also several nieces and nephews in Florida.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Elizabeth Crenshaw (Finley) and Mary Louise Gibson (Coy); brothers, Maurice Percy Preble, Jr and John Carl Preble.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, February 18, 2023, at All Saints Anglican Parish, 2623 N. College Rd, Wilmington, NC 28405.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to All Saints Anglican Parish.
