She was born May 9, 1945, in Southport, NC to the late James Warren Piver and Etha Estelle White Piver.
Joan was a graduate of Topsail high School Class of 1963. She attended East Carolina University and graduated from Old Dominion University. Joan taught First Grade for 31 years at Langley Elementary School in Hampton, VA. She was a member of Wesleyan Chapel United Methodist Church and enjoyed reading.
Survivors include her husband, John Marshall Taylor, Jr. of Hampstead; son, John Marshall Taylor III (Sharon) of Cobbs Creek, VA; Grandchildren, Holly Beasley (Brandon), Lindsey Beasley (Lee) and Carolyn Taylor; step-grandchildren, Brittany Craven and Ryan Godwin; five great-grandchildren; brothers, James Justin Piver (Selma), Rupert L. Piver (Ruth) and E. Glen Piver (Kay) and sister, Charlotte Piver Kelly.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm, Friday, March 25, at Andrews Hampstead Chapel.
The family will receive visitors one hour prior.
Burial will follow in Sea Lawn Memorial Park.
