Lloyd Crocker Brinkley, Jr.

Lloyd was born on August 11, 1958 in Wilmington, NC to the late Lloyd Crocker and Margaret Thompson Brinkley of Wilmington, NC. Lloyd’s grandparents were the late Jack Castleberry and Margaret Hodges Thompson of Wilmington, NC and the late Edwin Turner and Idalea Brinkley of Wilmington, NC.

Lloyd is survived by his wife Lisa Lindly Brinkley and their two fur babies Pumpkin and Rascal. Sisters, Leslie Elizabeth Brinkley (Eric) and Jacquelyn Brinkley Coyle (Mack). Nephews Jack, Rex and Everett and Niece Lauren. Brothers-in-law James Travis Lindly and Steven Roger Lindly. Sisters-in-law Maria Lindly Peeden (Joey) and Doris Polixene Lindly. Nephew Charlie James Peeden, niece Lillian Melissa Peeden and grandnephew Ayden Peeden.

Pallbearers will be John Mott, Rusty Bevis, Robert Moss, Tommy Rogers, John Mason and Eric Kozen, all his brothers at heart.  J. Michael Hudson will perform in Lloyd’s honor, Amazing Grace.

Lloyd was raised in Chapel Hill, NC. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School and continued his education at North Carolina State University and Sand Hills Community College where he received his degree in Horticulture. He did his internship on Hilton Head, SC.

Lloyd loved returning to Wrightsville Beach every summer during his youth. When he decided to start his business, Lloyd’s of Landscape, LTD on April 1, 1982, he chose his beloved Wilmington as his home. He then moved his business and opened his retail nursery, Lloyd’s Nursery of Ogden in 1988 before relocating in 2018 to Dutch Square.

The family would like to express a special note of gratitude and thanks to Dr. Thomas D’Amico and his staff and the nurses at Duke Medical Center in Durham, NC. Longtime friend Dr. Peter Manolukas of Wilmington, NC. Also, the loving and caring home healthcare nurses Rachel, Janice and Jennifer who helped care for him through his courageous battle to recover from several surgeries and procedures over this past year.

Visitation for Lloyd Crocker Brinkley Jr. will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St. Wilmington, NC 28401 from 3-5 pm. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at Mount Lebanon Chapel in Airlie Gardens, 814 Airlie Rd., Wilmington, NC 28403 at 1 pm. A graveside service will follow at Oleander Memorial Gardens, 306 Bradley Dr. Wilmington, NC 28403.

Lloyd’s artistic and visionary insight was all consuming for him. He had such passion for preserving, restoring and beautifying the land around him for his customers and the community. He was truly in his element and enjoyed every moment when meeting with his clients. Listening to their wants but helping them to fulfill their true desires for the perfect personalized oasis. His clients weren’t just clients, they became his friends. Occasionally he would let them get a word in edgewise! Lloyd and his colleagues shared mutual respect for one another for over 40 years.

Lloyd was a member of the New Hanover County Arboretum and a supporter of Airlie Gardens, winning many awards for The Landscape Contractors Showcase Division and then given a space for an Emeritus Garden which he donated back to the county several years ago and still lives on at Airlie Gardens.

Lloyd loved life and never knew a stranger. When he wasn’t working, which was rare, he enjoyed boating, cooking up some of his favorite foods, partying with family and friends and of course enjoying his LVT. Watching the sunsets and dancing diamonds on the water from his dock at home on Bradley Creek with loved ones. It’s hard to express how much love he held for us and we for him. He loved us all fiercely, his family, friends and pets. That was his greatest gift to us all and he will take a piece of all our hearts with him.  No words can describe how much he will be missed. His beautiful blue eyes, his smile, his contagious laugh and silly jokes. He will always be missed but will live on in our hearts forever.
