Lt. Colonel Robert Lee Stewart (Retired) died peacefully on December 5, 2025, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare.

He was born on January 29, 1928 in Wilmington, NC to Anthony Dewitt Stewart and Susan Hewett Stewart.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Anthony Dewitt Stewart and Susan Hewett Stewart; his high school sweetheart and wife of 53 years Pauline Gore Stewart; and his siblings Marie Rikes, William Stewart and Hilda Murray.

Robert is survived by his three children Robert Lee Stewart Jr. (Susan), Paula S. Jenkins and Toni S. Guyton. Robert was known as Big Daddy and loved by his grandchildren Angela Adams, Robert Stewart III, English Robbins, Priscilla Cowan, Pauline Sidbury, Brady Stewart, Claudia Dinkins, Madelyn He and Brandon Guyton; his great grandchildren Amanda Pearson, Cameron Danford, Kristian Adams, Haley Nolan, Samantha Strawbridge, Abram Weisser, Greyson Sowers, Joseph Dinkins, Ruby Stewart, Ava Dinkins, William Sidbury, Jack Stewart, Jonathan “Danny” Dinkins Jr, Rhett Faulk and his great-great grandson Reid Nolan.

Robert is also survived by his second wife Emily Brown Stewart, her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A service for Robert will be held on January 24, 2026 at the Hope Mausoleum in Greenlawn Memorial Park at 12:00 p.m. at 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be held inside the Chapel Mausoleum at the back of the cemetery.

Internment of Robert and Pauline (Bobby and Polly) will be held at the Hope Mausoleum immediately after the service.
