She was born in Wilmington on September 7, 1945, the daughter of the late Atwood Vance Long and Elizabeth Odum. Margaret was raised by her late Grandparents, Matthew and Janie Pemberton Walker.
Surviving is her husband, Fred H. Merritt, Jr. and her son, Dr. James R. Merritt and wife Jennifer.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Andrews Valley Chapel with Rev. Patricia DiGuiseppe and Rev. Tal Madison officiating. Burial will follow in Oakdale Cemetery.
