

Mary Catherine Blanchard Horne, 92, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, at Davis Health Care Center. She was born in Wallace, NC, on September 2, 1922, daughter of the late Ward Caswell Blanchard and Pearl Carr Blanchard. Mrs. Horne was a graduate of Rex Hospital Nursing School where she taught for one year prior to returning to school at UNC-Chapel Hill, to become certified as a Public Health Nurse. She was employed with New Hanover County as a Public Health Nurse for eighteen years. Mrs. Horne was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church and one who never met a stranger. Family, friends, and residents of Davis Health Care will miss her ever present smile and hearing the cheerfulness in her voice as she sang her favorite song, "You are My Sunshine". Surviving is her son, James A. Farrior and wife Janet of Wilmington; a grandson, James A. Farrior, III and wife Crystal of Chesapeake, VA and their children, Austin, Tyler, and Cody Farrior; step-grandchildren, Will and Emily Mullinix of Charlotte and their children, Tucker, William, and Emmett Mullinix; and Evan and Erin Mullinix and their children Harper and Sawyer; also a sister, Doris Blanchard Brooks, and a brother, Ward Blanchard both of Wallace. Preceding her in death was her husband, Rev. Everett E. Horne; her daughter, Carolyn Farrior, a sister, Betty Blanchard Hawes; and two brothers, Kenneth Blanchard and William Blanchard. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2014, at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church with Dr. Samuel Zumwalt officiating. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service with light refreshments being provided.
