Born on July 31, 1945, in Savannah, GA, Mary attended The Pape School in Savannah, and was an alumna of Kent Place in Summit, NJ. She graduated from Duke University in 1967 with a degree in Political Science, and then earned a master's degree in Library Science in 1969 from the University of Southern California. She worked as a librarian in the accounting and legal fields, and finally in commercial credit banking.
"Aunt Mary" was preceded in death by her parents Thomas T. Dunn, and Mary Louise Brewton Dunn of Savannah. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Thaddeus L. "Tad" Dunn, and his wife, Elizabeth James Dunn, both of Wilmington, and her nieces ("adored small munchkins") Sallie E. Dunn and husband Christian Williams, and Mary Katherine Dunn and fiancé Kyle Benson, also of Wilmington. Mary also leaves behind her family's dachshunds (the "beloved furballs") Rudy and Nico, as well as the Husky, Ollie. She was a voracious reader of non-fiction, a proud Southron, and loved horse racing, her Landfall ladies’ birthday group, Joffrey’s coffee, and her family. She was delightfully analog in a digital world.
Mary will be interred near Mom and Pop in Savannah at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that remembrances be made to Lower Cape Fear Lifecare.
