

Mary Hamby Mary Virginia Dyson Hamby, 85, of Wilmington, was called home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 18, 2009, at her residence. Mary was born March 7, 1924 in Patterson, NC and raised in Hickory, NC. She was a devoted military wife who married at age 17, and followed her husband, Harold, all over the world during his 32-year military career to such places as France, Germany, Korea, and various cities throughout the USA. They finally retired in Wilmington where she was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, ran the Neighborhood Community Watch, loved gardening, but loved her faithful Beagle companions, Zoe and Molly, even more. She is survived by two sons, Harold Hamby and wife, Alice, of Leland, NC, and Roland Hamby of Wilmington; grandson, Gregory Hamby of Wilmington; and granddaughter, Tracy Black of Greensboro, NC. The family will receive friends from 1pm to 2pm Monday, December 21, 2009, at CrossRoads Church, 2212 South 17th Street, Wilmington. A funeral service will follow at 2pm Monday, at the church, with Rev. Billy Batton officiating. Entombment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401.
