Mary "Lib" Elizabeth Thornton

Lib went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on July 24, 2023, after a short stay at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington, NC.

Lib was born in Salisbury, NC on January 6, 1948, to Jessie and Neta Holshouser.

She enjoyed traveling with her family, attending Cape Fear Baptist Church, and participating in ceramics.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roger Thornton; her grandson, Christian Thornton; and her sister, Judy Correll.

She leaves behind her two sons, Jeffrey “Scott” Thornton (Shannon); Jamie O. Thornton (Kelli); and daughter, Alena J. Faulkenberry. As well as four grandchildren, Robert (Christy), Amanda, Matthew, and Layla Thornton; and great-grandson, RJ Bradley. She will also be greatly missed by her six brothers and sisters, Betty Jean Cauble (Charlie), Johnny Holshouser, Carolyn Lackey (Ronnie), Linda Sanders (Larry), Bobby Holshouser, and Steven Holshouser (Jimmie).

A memorial service will be held at Cape Fear Baptist Church, located at 7300 Carolina Beach Road on Monday, July 31, 2023, at 11:00 am.

The family would like to extend their gratitude for your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

They rest in knowing that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
