She is survived by her husband, Col. J.T. Johnson (USAF Ret.) and her two sons, Jim and Dan.
Mattie Belle was born July 6, 1919 in Dawson, Ga. During World War II she served stateside in the Signal Corps.
She was an extraordinary partner in J.T.'s long Air Force career, which included numerous stations in the U.S. and abroad. In retirement, she was a driving force for maintaining squadron reunions of WW II Air Force veterans into the 2000s.
A private memorial service for Mattie Belle Johnson will be held at Andrews Hampstead Chapel, Hampstead, NC.
