Mildred Lee Ramsey McGirt

Mildred Lee Ramsey McGirt, 94 – a true Wilmingtonian born February 6, 1929, peacefully departed this earth March 4, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. She was known as “Millie” to her family and friends. She was the third of six children born to the late Charles Albert and Blanche Ramsey. She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Archie J. McGirt, Sr. and all of her siblings: Joyce Vereen, Louise Creech, Mick Ramsey, Sr., Marjorie Curtiss, and Donald Ray Ramsey.

Surviving are her children, Gail McGirt, Wayne McGirt (Barbara), and Archie McGirt, Jr. (Jan Batten). She was affectionally called Mimmie by grandchildren: Sally and Andrew, Kelly, Trey, Jaimie, Katherine and Jesse. Also the love of her life were great-grandchildren, Jayden, Alexia, Taylor, Addyson, Avery, Amos and Silas, and many nieces and nephews.

Mildred was an avid cook, bowler and gardener, and was known for her quick wit and sense of humor. Her family would like to thank the Hospice Home Care Team, especially Vanessa RN, Teresa CNR, volunteers Kathleen and Beverly, and Dr. Winneberger.

As her health declined, Mildred informed her doctor that she was going on a cruise and she had found the perfect dress for the occasion. He asked, “Where are you going?” Her response, “The first port of call is St. Andrews (Andrews Mortuary), the second will be Oakdale Cemetery, and the third will be the Pearly Gates.” He had a chuckle and admitted that a patient has never told him their funeral would be a cruise.

On Friday, March 10th from 4-6 pm the McGirt family invites you to visitation at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel and to bid Mildred “Spitfire” Ramsey McGirt her final Bon Voyage at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel on March 11, 2023 at 2 pm. Her final farewell at Oakdale Cemetery will take place immediately after the service.
