Minnie Lou Thompson

She was born on August 30, 1922 in Cumberland Co., daughter of the late Sudie Frances Beard Genes and Willis Jackson Genes.

“Mrs. Minnie” was a member of the Pearsal Memorial Methodist Church and the White Shrines. She enjoyed making floral arrangements and crafts but her family was her greatest joy. Mrs. Minnie will always be remembered for her beautiful smile and lovely saying “ Hey Darling”.

Including her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Thearon Ellis Thompson, sister, Ruby Turlington and brother, Calvin Genes.

Mrs. Minnie is survived by her daughter, Sue Ellen Willis and her husband, John of Wilmington. Four grandchildren; Lou Durbin and her husband, Paul, Jr., Thearon Willis and his wife, Wendy, Elizabeth Shepherd and her husband, Mark and Patience Willis. 12 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday February 19, 2011 at the Coble Ward- Smith Funeral Home, 3915 Oleander Drive Wilmington, NC 28403 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM and again on Sunday February 20, 2011 from 2:00PM to 3:00PM with a Funeral Service following at 3:00Pm with Pastor David Lord officiating.

A graveside service will be held on Monday February 21, 2011 at 11:00AM at the Lafayette Memorial Park in Fayetteville, NC.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice.
