Nancy was born on January 11, 1932, in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Richard M. and Elizabeth Mettler Powell. She attended Peace College in Raleigh, NC. Nancy was a member of First Baptist Church of Wilmington and Volunteered at the Good Shepherd Soup Kitchen for over 20 years. She was a bright light in our lives and will be sorely missed.
Surviving are her four children, Lynelle Bass, Steve Bass (Davis), Sharon Haire, and Gregg Bass (Holly); grandchildren, Shannon Thomas (James), Lindsay Bass and Nick Bass; great-grandson, McCoy Thomas; a sister, Dorothy Powell Marshall, and a nephew Brian Cheshire (Monica).
Also remembered are her first husband, O. Glenn Bass, her second husband, William “Bill” Ragan, Jr. and her sister, Elizabeth “Betty” Cheshire Baynes.
A memorial service will be held at 11am, Monday, January 2, 2023, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. A private interment will take place at a later date.
