

Nathan Keith Patterson, Jr., 81, passed away in Wilmington, NC, on Sunday, December 17, 2017. Nathan was born in Danville, VA on May 10, 1936. He graduated from G. W. High School in 1954 and proudly served in the U.S. Army for 3 years.
In 1958 Nathan married Mary Sue McElheney, his love and dedicated wife of 59 years. They have 3 children: Keith (Kelli), Chris (Donna) and Amy Lavinder (Steve); and 6 grandchildren: Jessica Callahan (Brandon), Alex Patterson, Victoria Ramsey (Alec), AliSue Patterson, James Lavinder and Nate Patterson.
Nathan (Pat) graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in 1960 and worked as a CPA with Price Waterhouse and Amtrak in Washington, DC, before owning his own accounting practice in Lakeland, FL. He retired to his hometown of Danville, VA, where he was an active member at Fairview UMC, The Danville Art League and the Sertoma Club of Danville.
Nathan is remembered for his love of vegetable and rose gardening, his talents as a watercolor artist, his spirited golf game, and his joy with a guitar in his hands. The family will miss his special home-cooked meals of Grandad chili and French bread.
Nathan is survived by his sisters, Martha Kent (Jess) and Jane Evans. He is preceded in death by his parents N. Keith Patterson and Dorothy Patterson.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017, at 2:00pm at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1403 Market Street, Wilmington, NC. Visitation with the family will follow the ceremony in the Fellowship Hall at the church.
