Rebecca Rosalee Burgess Lewis of Old Bridgesite Road, Castle Hayne, died Thursday, September 10, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. She was born February 15th, 1942, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Horace T. Burgess of Winston Salem; attended high school in Winston-Salem and graduated from Wake Forest University. She retired from teaching Latin, English and French at New Hanover High School. She was a classical scholar, church organist and pianist, and beloved by family and many friends. She is survived by her husband George C. Lewis of Old Bridgesite Rd.; three children, Elizabeth, Marcus, and Jane, all of Castle Hayne; four grandchildren, John Elliot Lewis of Seattle, WA, and Arlo, Donovan, and Felix Hill of Castle Hayne; her sisters, Sara Burgess Page and husband Pete, and Mary Burgess Wright and husband Steve, of Wilmington; and her son-in-law Tucker Hill of Old Bridgesite Road. A service will be held 4:00 pm Monday, September 14, 2015, at Andrews Mortuary Market Chapel, 1617 Market St. Interment will be in Oakdale Cemetery.
