Richard Wayne Gibson

Richard Wayne Gibson, age 88 of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Saturday, November 24, 2018.  Born in Stokes County, NC, on August 19, 1930, Wayne was one of nine children born to Howard Leon and Bright Williams Gibson. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings: brothers, Edison, Lewis, H.L., Buddy and Paul; sisters, Mary, Ruby and Jean.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army after graduation from Pine Hall High School, was a loyal employee of Southern Bell / AT&T for 40 years, and faithfully supported Grace United Methodist Church for 54 years. A strong moral compass instilled by his upbringing guided Wayne throughout his life.  Wayne's abiding legacy will forever be his 68 year marriage to his beloved wife, Manaline, and his deep commitment to his family.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Manaline; his daughter, Nancy Powell and husband, George; son, Richard and wife, Denise; and son, Reid; grandchildren, Michael Stark and wife, Emily; Jonathan Stark and wife, Sara; Andrew, Mary Grace, and Pierce Gibson; Anna, Layne and William Gibson; and great-grandchildren Oliver, Eleanor and Reid Stark.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, December 1, 2018, at Grace United Methodist Church, 401 Grace Street, Wilmington, NC 28401.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Grace United Methodist Church.
