He is survived by his sons Richard Spencer Pindell III and Jack Mann Pindell and his wife Julia. Five grandchildren were blessed to call him ""Pappy"": Richard Scott Pindell of Willow Springs, Elizabeth P. White, Kristin P. Bednarczyk David of Wilmington, Jason Scott Pindell Lily of Plantation, FL and Gina P. Till of Asheville. Eight great-grandchildren are a continuation of his legacy: Angie and Ricky White; Mason, Tabitha, Jaqulin, and Corbin Bednarczyk; Tristin Till and Jason Makai Pindell. Dick Pindell is also survived by Stella Klinefelter, his loving companion of twenty years, along with ""Capt. Toby"", their beloved dog. Dick Pindell attended Randolph Macon Military Academy, Duke University, and N.C. State College where he graduated in textile engineering. He wed Matilda Mann in 1934 and their marriage continued for over fifty years until her death in 1987. His career included thirty years with Burlington Mills before he retired to Seapath Tower at Wrightsville Beach, N.C. He then spent more than twenty years as a charter boat captain specializing in deep sea fishing and diving. Dick and Stella lived in Hampstead, NC, and enjoyed traveling the world together. In 2008 he moved to The Commons at Brightmore where he charmed fellow residents and caring staff alike. Cap'n Dick loved life. He showed us all how to embrace life with great energy and enthusiasm, always demonstrating optimism and a grateful heart. His formula for longevity was E.D.A. – exercise, diet and attitude. Dick was a licensed private pilot, an active member of the Power Squadron, and served on the first Wrightsville Beach Holiday Flotilla committee. He loved being on the water in his boat, The Pisces, and was active in the Coast Guard Auxiliary for many years. It was not uncommon to find Dick listening to music; tapping his foot and conducting the band playing on the radio. He loved a good conversation and within minutes he would be sharing some of life's treasures that he learned from his mother. ""Nothing ever bothers me, my life is one big jubilee…"" A memorial service will be held at 3 P.M. Monday, October 12, 2009 in Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1412 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or a favorite charity.
