

Robert 'Bob' Vogt of Wilmington, NC passed away August 28,2025 after a courageous battle with cancer and was immediately transported into Heaven. He was born in Fremont, Ohio in 1939, son of the late Robert W. and Helen A. Vogt. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Cheryl LaVonne Vogt and three children: Lisa Vogt Facha, Paige Vogt, Adam Ruple CW3; two step children: Brig. General Adam Ake and wife Col. Julie Ake, MD and Alison LaVonne Temple, PA. He deeply cherished his eleven grandchildren: Elisabeth, Daniel, Emily and Anneliese Ake, Ava and Mia Salerno, Zachery Temple, Alexis, Aiden and Charlotte Rupel and Emily Facha Black. Other survivors include an honorary grandson Abel Bain, honorary son Rob King and honorary Son in law Joe Salerno. Also a sister Lois and husband Tom Alcorn of Littleton, CO and a brother Dean and wife Anita Vogt of Vancouver, WA. He was the oldest of nineteen Vogt cousins mostly scattered between Ohio,Conn, Washington and California.
His family moved to Los Banos, CA in 1947 where he graduated from Los Banos High School in 1957 lettering on basketball, football and tennis. He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-1960. He then played college basketball before beginning a 25 year career managing title and escrow companies in Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona and Washington. Returning to Alaska in 1991, he became a successful mortgage originator until retirement in 2010. He claimed he worked for "the best bosses he ever had" George Porter and Roger Aldrich at Residential Mortgage.
Always involved in athletics, he was especially proud of his contribution in starting the Great Alaska Shootout - a 40 year Thanksgiving event hosting Division I basketball teams for the "Lower 48" he was the 1979 Committee Chairmen and remained involved till the last games in 2017 where all 40 chairmen were honored. Also in Anchorage, he was very involved in Rotary and the UAA Seawolves basketball. programs. After moving to Wilmington in 2010, he was a member of the Cape Fear West Point Society and a volunteer at Beau Rivage Golf Club in Wilmington and a volunteer at various PGA tournaments across the country. After golfing for over 35 years, he finally celebrated a hole in one at Beau Rivage, October 3, 2024.
He never had a passport until he was 60 years old, but after traveling to England in 1999, he could not be stopped. He and LaVonne managed to visit over 60 countries and all 50 states in 26 years. They completed a final 42 day cruise to the Mediterranean last December and the highlight was seeing the Pyramids of Egypt. Another notable event was being baptised in the Jordan River in 2012.
He was a beloved member of Southside Baptist Church in Wilmington and served on the Finance Committee and was recognized as a deacon last year. He was a committed believer and consistently demonstrated love, generosity and encouragement to everyone he met.
A memorial service will be held at Southside Baptist Church, Wilmington on Saturday, September 27 at 2pm. Casual dress is suggested since Bob spend a good portion of his days in golf attire. There will be a time of refreshment and fellowship following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Bob's favorite charities: Samaritan's Purse, Athletes in Action ( a CRU Ministry) Tunnel to Towers and Southside Baptist Missions.
