Ruth McGee O'Dwyer

RUTH McGEE O’DWYER age 88, of Leland North Carolina passed away on January 6, 2021 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina of COVID-19-related complications. Born in Evanston, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Searcy. and Faith McDaniel McGee and preceded in death by her husband, Dennis E. O’Dwyer.

Mrs. O’Dwyer taught Early Childhood Education for 34 years in Illinois and Maryland. She graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi and Mortar Board. She retired in 1996 and moved from Maryland to North Carolina in January 2001 living at Magnolia Greens Golf Planation. She was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church and PEO Chapter BW of Wilmington.

She is survived by her dear friend Bob Henard, two daughters – Kathleen Arney (husband Bill) of Raleigh, North Carolina and Deborah Harrington of Austin, Texas, and a son, Thomas O’Dwyer (wife Joyce) of Lutherville, Maryland, five grandchildren, a sister – Helen Wilcox of Lake Forest, Illinois, and a special niece Maryfaith Weiss of Glencoe, Illinois.

A memorial service will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Wilmington, Carolina at a future date.

Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Skokie, Illinois.
